Cambridge, MA, April 22, 2008Podcast.com, the premier podcast portal, announced today that Podcast.com now provides an opportunity for companies to get their own Corporate Podcast ChannelTM to provide businesses a way to aggregate the growing number of corporate podcasts that provide branding, awareness and educational experiences to customers and prospects of corporations. Additionally, the company announced its first Corporate Podcast Channel customer as PriceWaterhouseCoopers. The PWC Corporate Podcast Channel can be found at http://pwc.podcast.com.

A Corporate Channel is a dedicated channel on Podcast.com that allows businesses to leverage the built-in Podcast.com search engine optimization and gain access to the rapidly growing base of podcast consuming visitors to Podcast.com. Podcast.com Corporate Podcast Channels also provide companies with access to distribution of their content to hundreds of millions of Internet-connected devices including cell phones, portable Wifi devices and Internet radios. Podcast.com Announces Top Podcasts of 2007

01.08.08

We announced yesterday the top podcasts of 2007 at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas - one curious fact was that only 2 shows were what I would consider ‘indie’ style podcasts - smaller new media companies or individuals taking advantage of the democratization of media and web 2.0 style publishing tools - this surprised me. Another was established media’s willingness to engage with us and ask for help in how they can broaden the footprint of their programs - very refreshing! Below is part of the release and list:

Treedia Labs, a leading media aggregation and distribution company, announced today its Podcast.com “Top 10 Podcasts of the Year” Award for 2007. Podcast.com is the premier podcast destination that provides access to a growing list of over 43,000 curated and updated podcasts representing more than 175,000 hours of audio and video content. Podcast.com’s unique solution for content consumers also presents an unsurpassed way for content providers to reach an audience that consumes podcasts via the Web, mobile phones and other multimedia devices.

Each year, Podcast.com tallies the total number of times a program has been accessed by consumers. In 2007, Podcast.com tracked over one million podcast access connections via the Podcast.com portal. The top 10 Podcasts represent those items that were accessed the most in 2007.

Podcast.com’s Top 10 Podcasts of the Year Award recipients are:

This year’s winners are enjoying the sizeable and growing audiences of downloadable media consumption. According to Edison Media Research data from 2007, more than 37 million podcasts were accessed by consumers in the US. According to Radio Joint Audience Research (RAJAR), a group dedicated to measuring radio audiences in the UK, podcast listening increased 40-percent, to 2.7 million people throughout the UK in 2007.

“As Internet-connected mobile phones become more pervasive, podcast content represents one of the major formats that consumers are adopting as part of their daily media experience,” said Duncan Perry, chief operating officer of Treedia Labs.

“Podcast.com’s growing audience clearly values the content diversity being offered by both independent and mainstream media producers.”

This One Time at Podcamp…..

09.04.07

Cool promo idea from the folks at PodCampAZ - Here it is…..

This one time at podcamp…

I know, Labor Day is suppost to be a day off, but I got this bug in my butt to get some promotions moving for PodCamp. So based on the suggestions on the Google Group, I busted out a new promotion. I need your help to make it successful. Here’s how it works:

  • Make a 10 second (or less) video clip that falls in line with the phrase “This one time at PodCamp…” and can be closed up by the phrase “…it could happen”
  • Upload it to the box account at: ThisOneTimeAtPodCamp.com
  • Do it by October 1st

I’m so excited about the promo videos. I can’t wait to see them. Feel free to ask any questions if you have any right here.

Thanks!

The subdomain system for brands to build their own customized social multimedia networking podcast site to amplify podcasts is coming along - check out the progress here - demo.podcast.com - The great thing about generic term domain names is that when the subdomain is a brand name, your brand doesn’t get diluted by our domain name!

Briefings Direct - Dana Gardner

07.21.06

Dana Gardner has a post here about ‘community podcast directories’ - all the features he wants we’re building…..keep those ideas flowing Dana!! His blog is a good read - follow it.

The uber community podcast directory

07.21.06

There seems to be some hubbub around the concept of a ‘community podcast directory’ and in fact it is one of the core reasons we have built (and continue to build) Podcast.com in the way we have - forming a solid content data foundation, with easy tools - then slapping that data into a great UI, for the web, mobiles and desktop. And btw with a simple neutral URL to find the good stuff…;)
‘Community Directories’ are exactly what you will have available at Podcast.com, in open OPML and RSS for you to consume and manipulate, using easy tools we are building here for you.
Soon, you will be able to log in to Podcast.com, create an account - get a super hot URL for your podcast directory and fill her up! In fact the other day in a matter of minutes we pulled together Canada.Podcast.com in an OPML file for easy consumption and findability of all Canadian podcasts.

The call came from http://www.rogic.com/canadapodcasts/ who was maintaining the node for the old community directory that has been abandoned – we fixed up the OPML to comply with the spec via our toolset and voila Canadian podcasts are cranking again. We left the custom tags in there. You can find it here :

http://podcast.com/opml/canada_fixed.opml
We have also been testing out various nodes – BBC.Podcast.comWorldcup.Podcast.comCNN.Podcast.comNPR.Podcast.com
The power of OPML inclusion will make it very easy to connect many different users’ podcast directories together to form an infinite growth of trees of directories, mashed up any way you like.

So the ‘root’ of this directory is in place….come on in and curate!

We Amplify the Media You Make

06.08.06

I think we are on to something very innovative at Podcast.com - Sub-Domains.

One, we recently added, which ‘taps’ into our directory at a specified ‘node/branch’ is by popular demand ( which is how we like to do things - responding to the needs of Podcasters and Listeners ).

It has all the podcasts aggregated by NPR (National Public Radio) - browse and listen to them @ http://npr.podcast.com

A simple to remember URL.

One of the cool opportunities of building out Podcast.com is that we could effectively provide a subdomain (the bit before the domain name) for *any* BRAND. This provides a VERY easy to remember URL for people to promote and our *brand* (ie: podcast.com) does not dilute or interfere with the brand and values of the potential brand name used for the subdomain. It amplifies the media you make.

We think that’s very cool. Please do drop us a line using the feedback form at Podcast.com if you are interested in the possibilities here.
